Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate Case Study

Amelie Construction & Supply

“I estimate that we are saving $10,000 a year by using Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate Payroll and Aatrix Software.”

Founded in 2003 as a certified woman/disadvantaged business enterprise, Amelie Construction & Supply has grown steadily as its reputation for quality, innovation, and safety has earned it the repeat business of the county and state agencies throughout the region.

Several years ago, when the company’s growth began pushing its entry-level accounting software beyond its limits, controller Carol Peters recommended the company switch to Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate. “I used Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate for 15 years at a previous employer,” she says. “I know what it can do for a business and how much more efficiently a construction company can operate with the tools it provides.”

Speed multi-state payroll tasks

Operating in several states can greatly complicate a company’s payroll. “Quarterly reports used to be a nightmare,” Peters recalls. “I had to stay current on the various rules in each state, plus the multitude of unions operating within each state. There are penalties assessed if we are late or have inaccurate data.”

The company’s Sage business partner introduced Amelie Construction & Supply to Aatrix Software payroll tax form preparation and eFiling services that integrate with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate. “The quarterly reports for the four states we work in used to take a lot of time. I had to go to each state’s website, search for the current withholding and unemployment numbers, and then complete the report,” says Peters.

With Aatrix State and Federal Payroll Reports, it is automatic.

She continues, “Aatrix uses the data within Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate to produce the reports. I can review them for accuracy, submit them electronically through the Aatrix Payroll eFile Center, and Aatrix sends them to the appropriate agencies. It is a tremendous time saver, and we have the security of knowing our reports are accurate.”

In-house payroll saves $10,000 annually

Amelie Construction & Supply used to outsource its payroll operations but decided to take advantage of the powerful and easy to use Payroll component in Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate. “Outsourcing is expensive, and we had to perform most of the work anyway,” recalls Peters. “We had to accumulate the hours by job and by employee, produce the various union reports, and prepare the data in the format the payroll service wanted.”

Using Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate, as timesheets are entered the labor costs automatically flow to the appropriate job and cost code. “We only have to enter the data once to have updated job costs and accurate payroll data,” notes Peters.

The cost savings Amelie Construction & Supply is realizing by bringing payroll in house is significant. “We were paying the service $1,200 each month, plus extra for new hires and layoffs, and any special reports we needed,” Peters says. “I estimate that we are saving $10,000 a year by using Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate Payroll and Aatrix Software.” The efficiency inherent in Aatrix is saving the team 10-12 hours each quarter – time now put to more productive use.

Save 45% on Form W-2 Processing

It is estimated that W-2 processing can cost an organization up to $4.50 per employee. With the Aatrix Complete Filing Service, Amelie Construction & Supply can save up to 45 percent while saving time and eliminating the hassle of printing, stamping, and mailing the forms. “This year, we will use Aatrix Complete W-2 eFile Service to file our Form W-2s,” says Peters.

It Speaks Our Language

Amelie Construction & Supply appreciates the benefits of using Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate. “The financial benefits of switching to a construction software package are astronomical,” concludes Peters. “Having software that speaks our language and supports our workflows and processes is invaluable. I cannot imagine using anything other than Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate. It is the best application available for subcontractors like us.”
